This year on November 8, Alenco took part in the first Baths for the Brave event — an annual event in which home improvement companies give back to the veterans who sacrifice so much to preserve our freedom. We believe in the importance of giving back whenever we can, and hope to give our veterans independence with accessible bathroom renovations.

What is Baths for the Brave?

Baths for the Brave is centered around the belief that companies can do well and do good. That’s why on November 8, our network of companies surprised ten veterans — who have been left disabled or with hardships from their service — with bathroom renovations that give our soldiers more comfort and independence. It’s our small way of saying thank you for their act of service.

Who We Help

Nate Dufriend of Hutchinson, Kansas, had served multiple tours from 2003-2014 in the War in the Middle East. Like his comrades, he risked his life on numerous occasions to uphold the freedom and safety of our nation. As a gunner for the marines, Nate sustained a bullet wound to his head, leaving him with a long recovery, a permanent disability, and PTSD.

Now back at home, Nate is struggling to adapt to a new way of life while juggling his responsibilities as a father of four. We let Nate know how much we appreciate his service by surprising him with a bathroom renovation that included a walk-in shower.

Nate has commented, “I’m absolutely speechless. I really need something like this. I haven’t had something done for me in a long time and it’s nice to see someone is willing to finally do something to help me.”

“It’s people like this we’re trying to help,” says Allen Erskine, president and owner of Alenco. “War is an incomprehensible concept for those who have never experienced it, and we want our soldiers and our veterans to know they’re loved, they’re respected, their service matters and we won’t forget you — in fact we want to thank you.”

Here at Aleco, we look forward to giving back to our veterans every year. It’s our way of saying thank you.
